Meet the Bentayga: Bentley’s First SUV

by Author

The fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world is a Bentley.

Boasting the most technologically advanced 12-cylinder engine, the Bentayga can reach 60 mph in just 4 seconds (and 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds). If that wasn’t enough, Bentley promises the luxury vehicle will hit a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h), making the Bentayga the fastest SUV on the market.

While this is Bentley’s first SUV, it’s safe to say the luxury car manufacturer has created a masterpiece.

Based on the same platform as the new 2016 Audi Q7, the Bentayga will be the first Bentley powered by a diesel engine and a hybrid drivetrain. The company didn’t stray far from its top-selling Continental GT in terms of design, and have transplanted a modified design onto the SUV body.

The front end features include the traditional matrix engine grille and four round headlamps. At the back, the split tailgate was dropped for a more conventional lid. A pair of nearly oval-shaped taillights (larger than the Continental’s) and a sturdy bumper with big exhaust also distinguish the Bentayga from other Bentleys. The panoramic glass roof comes standard, and 60 per cent of the Bentayga’s roof is made from glass panels.

Inside, the cabin is very roomy and covered with handcrafted leather, wood, and metal trim. Some of the advanced tech features include predictive and adaptive cruise control, hill descent control, electronic night vision, and head-up display systems. The front seats are adjustable 22 ways and come with heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

As a luxury vehicle, the Bentayga is highly customizable, and customers will be able to choose between 15 shades of leather, seven wood veneers, and 15 carpet colours.

Finally, the SUV will be able to seat either four or five people, which means customers can choose between a traditional bench or two individual seats in the rear. A seven-seat version is also underway, but there aren’t many details on that model at this time.
