From Real Estate to the Runway: Hammond International Properties at the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Show

by Author

Hammond International Properties recently had the opportunity to visit the all-new Mercedes-Benz Thornhill facility, and it is absolutely stunning.

It is over 130,000 square feet, has over 40 vehicles on display and 32 service bays and service drive-thru. But we weren’t there to see our preferred partner’s luxury cars…we were there for fashion.

Hammond had a front row seats to the 5th annual Mercedes-Benz Start Up, a premier Canadian fashion program that provides a national platform to discover and support emerging designers.

They gain the knowledge and skillset required to develop a sustainable career in the fashion industry, while elevating their professional profiles through unique and exclusive opportunities. Best of all, participants have an opportunity to showcase their Spring 2016 collections at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week in October.

The hunt for three extraordinary design labels and three wildcards began in Montreal on August 13 and ended in Calgary on August 21. In between those dates, on August 18, fashionistas, fans of fashion and creative personalities crowded into the exquisite Mercedes-Benz Thornhill to witness the creative collections of 5 semi-finalists, Beaufille, NARCES, DALLA - Formerly HD Homme, Laura Siegel and Matthew Gallagher.

A panel of judges had to make the difficult decision as to who would move forward, but Beaufille was named the winner while Laura Siegel and NARCES were selected as wildcards.

These labels will compete against winners from Montreal and Calgary in a group finale runway show where the judges will name an Awarded Designer.

The recipient will receive year-round intensive mentoring from the panel of experts, an editorial feature in FASHION Magazine, a fully produced solo runway show at World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016 in March, and a $30,000 bursary.

Good luck to you all!
